The Newington Little League Umpire Training Handbook

Obstruction Rule

The following training dates were agreed upon at Wednesday’s meeting, and a huge thank you to those leagues who stepped up to host a training session or two.  Each training session will cover different rules, plate and base mechanics, and fundamentals.  We need each league to help spread the word and encourage your umpires to attend.  The specific gym location of each training session will be announced at a later date.  Each session will run from 6:30p to 8:30p no signup or prior experience needed. Just show up!

This year, there is a two day clinic on February 1st/ 2nd.  The format this year appears to have been changed to only focus on Plate Mechanics.  Umpires will have to bring their own equipment for drills and the minimum age is 18.  See the link below for further information.  Tickets go on sale 1/2/25.  This clinic fills up quickly as it is open to all umpires throughout the East Region.  Those who have attended from D7 in past years have found them extremely helpful.  Once again, the time to get the word out to your umpires is NOW.

The second event being held is the Umpire Academy on April 10th - April 13th 2025.  This is a four day school which is meant for experienced umpires who want a chance at umpiring a Regional or World Series as this covers rules, plate / base mechanics, and fundamentals.

The newest clinic is a Tournament Preparation Clinic.  This will be held June 5th-7th.  This is open to any umpire 18 or older who plans on umpiring any level of the Little League Tournament.
